About Singapore

Singapore is a sunny tropical island in South east Asia, off the Southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. The island country consists of 63 islands where Pulau Ujong is the mainland. Singapore is smaller than many major cities around the world, but has managed to make its mark on the world. It is a thriving metropolis offering world class infrastructure, a dynamic business environment, vibrant living spaces and a rich culture largely influenced by the four major communities with each offering different perspective on life in terms of culture, religion, language and history. Singapore has been ranked as the top city in Asia in terms of “Quality of Living” and also regarded as the “Happiest country in SoutheastAsia.”

Singapore has the third highest population density in the world with a multicultural population, a result of the considerable migrations in the past. The Chinese are predominant, making up three quarters of the population. Malays are the next largest ethnic group and Indians the third and the Eurasians last. The island country has four official languages; English, Malay, Mandarin and Tamil although English is the auxiliary language and majority of public services and trade are conducted in only English. Cultural and religious affiliations reflect the ethnic patterns. Chinese profess to Confucianism, Buddhism or Daoism whereas Malays and some Indians adhere to Islam which is the formal religion of about one seventh of the population. Despite having such a dense population, Singapore is renowned for having some of the cleanest streets in the world. The island nation is famous for its street food, a mix of Chinese, Indian, Malay and Indonesian dishes with rice as their staple food.

True to its Southeast Asian location, Singapore is characterised by a hot and humid climate. Located near the Equator, it quite naturally enjoys a tropical equatorial climate. The island does not have clear cut seasons like summer, spring, autumn and winter. Singapores climate is characterised by uniform temperature and pressure, high humidity and abundant rainfall. The average temperature is between 25C and 31C. Thunderstorms occur on 40% of all days. April is the warmest month, January is the coolest month and November is the wettest month.

It may be one of the most expensive cities in the world, but what Singapore has to offer is worth every penny you'll spend. The Lion City is home to the largest infinity pool, one of the best safari parks- Wild Reserves Singapore, the world's first safari for nocturnal animals- Night Safari, centuries-old temples like Thian Hack Keng and of course some of the finest cuisines on the planet. You'll also find extraordinary gardens like Gardens by the Bay and Singapore Botanical Gardens, impressive historical architecture, art and museums like the Singapore Art Museum, Merlion Park and National Gallery Singapore, world class performance venues like The Esplanade, gigantic shopping malls, relaxing and sizzling beaches like The Marina Bay sands and Sentosa Island. There are also other breath-taking sights like the Universal Studios, the SEA aquarium, Singapore zoo and lastly, make sure to take a city tour as it is the best-known way to explore a new city!
