The Kingdom of Netherlands is a country located in North western Europe. The name Netherlands means “low countries”. The country is sometimes called Holland, but the name only applies to two provinces, North and South Holland, which border the North Sea in Amsterdam and Hague. The country borders Germany to the east, Belgium to the south and the North Sea coastline to the north and he west. The four major cities are Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Amsterdam which is also the nominal capital of the country. Famed for beautiful canals, stunning tulip fields, and spectacular windmills, the Netherlands is a heaven on earth that showcases nature’s magic at its best

The Netherlands is the 5th most densely populated country in Europe with a population of over 17.5 million people where majority of the population are Dutch while the rest are Europeans and people of other different. The Dutch are known to be the tallest people in the world and many residents ride bicycles for transportation as there are three times as many bicycles as there are cars in Netherlands. The main language is Dutch, while Frisian is also a recognized language in the province of Friesland and is used by the government and schools there. The religions practiced by the population in Netherlands are varied although the majority are Roman Catholics. Dutch cuisine is simple and straightforward, and was shaped by practices of fishing and farming and contains many kinds of meats and dairy products especially cheese as Dutch people consume an average of 14.3 kgs of cheese per person per year.

The Netherlands is a country that can be visited all year round. The summer (June to August) is the peak travel season you’ll witness a ton of activity at this time. With the temperature being very mild, you don’t have to worry about the sweltering heat. Spring season (March to May) is one of the best seasons in the country due to its pleasant weather conditions. The month of March starts off as slightly cool, but soon starts getting warmer. The minimum temperature during these three months drops to around 5°C and the maximum temperature rises to 19°C. Autumn (September to November) is just as stunning as summer. The minimum average temperature during this time of the year in the country goes to 8°C and the average maximum temperature goes only as high as 14°C although it can get rainy during these months. The winter season (December to January)  can get chilly, but it won’t get as cold as other European countries. The temperature can go a degree or two below the freezing point during January, but it usually stays within the bracket of 2°C to 7°C. There is hardly any snowfall in the country.

The Kingdom of Netherlands is one of the most vibrant and interesting countries in Europe. Known for its eclectic capital city of Amsterdam, the Netherlands is far more than just canals and museums, and if you venture further afield you will find picture postcard pretty towns as well as dynamic cities like Rotterdam and The Hague. Due to its relatively small size, it is easy to visit the Netherlands fairly quickly and to see a lot of the country in a short space of time. Getting out into the countryside is often one of the highlights of a trip for many, especially if you visit famous areas like the traditional villages that are filled with iconic windmills and tulips. While in Netherlands, you can take a stroll in the Garden of Europe, witness the gorgeous canals all over the country, take a trip down memory lane and take in the art in the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, explore Hoge Veluwe National Park, have fun at the amusement park of Efteling, have a beer at the Heineken experience and plenty more.
